Alice and George’s wedding was one of those days that was so full of beautiful moments, emotions and energy that it definitely deserved a full story of its own.
The day started with getting ready near ExCeL London. George was getting ready at a nearby hotel, while Alice spent her morning at the beautiful Sunborn London, the floating yacht hotel overlooking Royal Victoria Dock.
It was such a lovely place to begin the day, with beautiful natural light and wonderful views across London’s Docklands. I photographed all the little moments of the morning before we headed to the wedding ceremony.
Wedding Ceremony at Trinity Buoy Wharf
The ceremony took place at the incredible Trinity Buoy Wharf in East London.
It was my first time photographing a wedding at this venue and I absolutely fell in love with it.
Trinity Buoy Wharf is unlike almost any other London wedding venue I have photographed. It combines industrial architecture, contemporary art, quirky creative details and historic elements, while still feeling incredibly special and atmospheric for a wedding.
As a photographer and a creative person, I loved it immediately. There are interesting textures, colours, architecture and unexpected little corners everywhere you look.
And, of course, the views are amazing.
From Trinity Buoy Wharf you can see across the Thames towards The O2, with the Docklands and Canary Wharf skyline creating an incredible London backdrop.
Alice and George’s ceremony itself was warm, emotional and very personal, surrounded by their closest family and friends.
After the ceremony, everyone had some time to relax, have a drink and enjoy the reception while I concentrated on capturing all the natural interactions between the guests.
We also took some family and group photographs before heading off with Alice and George for their couple portraits.
Wedding Photos at the Trinity Buoy Wharf Lighthouse
One of the things that makes this venue particularly special is its historic lighthouse.
Trinity Buoy Wharf is home to London’s only remaining lighthouse, built in the nineteenth century, and there was absolutely no way we were going to photograph a wedding here without going inside.
So, of course, we did!
We created some of my favourite portraits of Alice and George inside the lighthouse. The staircase, windows, light and unusual interior gave the photographs a completely different atmosphere and made this part of their couple session feel particularly special.
We then continued exploring the surrounding area, using the industrial architecture, the river and the London skyline as backgrounds for their photographs.
This is one of the things I loved most about photographing a Trinity Buoy Wharf wedding. There is so much variety within one location.
The Wedding Reception and Evening Party
As the day moved into the evening, the atmosphere changed completely.
The formal part of the wedding was over, everyone relaxed and the party really started.
And then came the live brass band.
With saxophones, trumpets and other brass instruments, they played brilliant versions of well-known songs and completely transformed the atmosphere in the room.
The energy was incredible.
Everyone was dancing, singing, laughing and genuinely having the best time.
These are always some of my favourite moments to photograph at weddings.
Once people forget about the camera and simply start enjoying themselves, you get those completely spontaneous photographs that really tell the story of what the evening felt like.
I spent the party looking for all those moments happening around me: friends dancing together, hugs, laughter, reactions, movement, people singing along with the band and all the little interactions that happen for just a second and then disappear.
I always want my wedding photographs to show not only what the day looked like, but what it felt like.
